Health vs Wealth

Argumentative: Health or wealth, which is more important?

Wealth is an important thing in our life. One of the wealth has a lot of money. We can spend money to buy ours needs such as food and drink. Money can also satisfy ourselves by having a smartphone. But we also have to remember there is more important than wealth. What is that? It is health. The Lancet defined ‘ʻhealth as the ability of a body to adapt to new threats and infirmities’’ (as cited in Felman, A., 2002, p.4).

Some people think wealth is everything in their life. They assume that wealth can cure them of chronic diseases like cancer. With the wealth, they think they can find the best treatment to cure their disease and can do the best treatment at a private hospital but at the same time, the specialist doctor cannot give a guarantee that their life can be saved. Thomas Fuller says, “Health is not valued till sickness comes.” So, health cannot be traded with wealth.

In addition, if you have good health you can do a lot of activities like jogging and travelling. You can go to any place without thinking of many things but people in bad condition or sick, they cannot do what they want. They cannot do exercise, travelling and shopping. That is because their abilities have its limit. They cannot move or go anywhere. So, they finally are miserable and cannot use wealth to enjoy their life. Therefore, good health is the real happiness in our lives.

Can you imagine if you were in poor health would you be able to pursue wealth? Of course not. Unhealthy people cannot force their physical to work hard. As a result, decreases their earnings and at the same time increases medical cost. But healthy people can work harder and more effectively and can also increase income. Thus, health is the most important thing we need to take care of to get wealth.

In conclusion, health is the most valuable. Ralph Waldo Emerson says, “The first wealth is wealth.” This proves that health is wealth because if you are in not good health nothing is enjoyable in your life.
